Puttu and Kadala or Appam or Idiyappam and Kadala are the most common dishes in the breakfast table of Keralalites. I don't think there is a single Malayalee who doesn't like either of this combination. So today I am going to share something with you ie the traditional recipe of Varutharacha kadala curry....Let's begin.......
Ingredients
* Soaked Kadala or bengal gram -250 grams
* Masala powder -1/2 teaspoon
* Chilli powder -2 heaped teaspoon
* Grated coconut -1 cup (half of a coconut)
* Salt -as per your requirement
* Coriander powder -1 teaspoon
* Green chilli - 5 nos.
* Sliced onion-1
FOR SEASONING
* Coconut oil 2 table spoon
* Curry leaves-1 sprig
* Red chilli-4 nos.
* Mustard seeds - 1 table spoon
Directions:
* Add soaked kadala or Bengal gram, water,turmeric powder, green chilli, salt and onion into the pressure cooker.
*Cook for about 10 minutes.
* Add the grated coconut into a pan and fry it till it reaches a dark brown colour.
* Add chilli powder, coriander powder and masala powder and fry it for two more minutes.
* Make a smooth paste with the above mixture
* Add the grinded paste into the already cooked kadala and pour some water.
* Bring this to boil.
* Then reduce the flame.
* When it reaches a semi thick consistency remove it from flame.
* Add oil into another pan.
* Add mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chilli into the hot oil.
/* Season the kadala curry with the above oil.
* Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
